Musical Ability Evaluation

You need to learn how to properly evaluate a musical performance, whether it is another student playing a piece of music that you yourself are working on or a professional person/group performing a musical composition you have never heard.

As a music student you must go beyond the normal statement of, "I like that." or "That was cool." Students in music classes should have specific reasons that a performance was either bad, mediocre or good.

Another evaluation issue to take into account is that just because you did not "like" a certain performance, does not mean it was badly performed. Your personal musical taste is not the issue in evaluating the quality of a performance.

Use appropriate terms and remember to say both things they did well and things they need to improve on.

Find two people playing scales and evaluate them using the thoughts listed above.
